T. Rex Time

Severe weather could not dampen the inspiration that is Thaddeus Rex and the Avon, Plainfield and Danville Rotary clubs. Over 75 guests and Rotarians braved the cold and snow to make it to the Royal Theater on Thursday night. Thaddeus took to the stage at 7pm and was introduced by Greg VanLaere, president of the Danville Rotary Club. The message of the evening was inspiration. The theme Thaddeus laid out was know your audience and be passionate about what you believe in. It was a great event.

With an evening joint meeting with the Avon and Plainfield Rotary clubs, it freed up the ability for some Danville Rotarians to invade the Brownsburg Rotary Club.  Charles, Greg, Henry, Neal, Dave, and Charlie attended the noon meeting at Dawson's II.  With our club meeting on Thursday, we do not have the opportunity to visit Brownsburg very often.  It was a pleasure to catch up with fellow Rotarians.

Speech Contest

Speech Contest

What can you learn from a high school student who is giving a speech about Rotary? Everything you ever wanted to know about Rotary. SHE did a great job on her speech about peace and the object of Rotary. As our solo speaker she will move on to the District 6560 speech contest in a couple of weeks.  As the speaker she also collected a $100.00 check from the club.  We are very happy that SHE will be representing our club at the district level.  Below, Danville Rotarians are spellbound by our speaker.

Jerry Weed has been our program chair the the speech contest for a number of years.  Jerry lines up the participants and helps them down the path to complete the project.  This week, Jerry had the instructor from the high school say a few words about the District 6560 Speech contest that she took part in last year as well as David Vornholt.  David won the speech contest last year and went to the district contest.
This weekend, Neal, Charles, and I attended RLY One and Two.  Rotary Leadership Institute takes an in depth look into the workings of Rotary and the development of Leadership skills.  This program is open to all Rotarians.  It is a great experience and everyone should take time in their rotary life to do.

Peace Project

This Thursday will be our Peace Project with the Avon and Plainfield clubs.  "Inspire like a Rock Star" author Thaddeus Rex, will be our guest speaker for the evening.  Rex's Inspire Like a Rock Star program drives straight to the core of business ethics. As he says, "When your business is working to give customers a better life, your customers will give you a better business. Rotary is the perfect partner for this project. I'm so excited to be involved. Their slogan of 'Peace Through Service' says it all. The clubs of Danville, Plainfield, and Avon have put in countless hours behind the scenes in preparation and when Tracie (Shearer, owner of the Royal Theater and a member of the Danville Rotary Club) approached me about this event, I knew it had to happen. This kind of service is what good business is all about."  (Flyer Group)

Danville Rotarians that purchase a ticket to the event will receive a meal credit on their bill.  If you will be unable to attend and would like to donate your meal credit to the Event, please contact Henry or Ron B.

It is important for Tracie to have a head count for the event.  If you have not done so, please e-mail her with how many people you will be bringing.  There will be other communication that will go out through DacDB.

Apple for Teacher

Apple for teacher is one of Danville Rotary clubs premier traditions.  Each year Rotarians come together to deliver apples to Danville Community School teachers. Tom Swords puts together a great event. Pulling together Rotarians and securing the apples for delivery. This year the teachers were extremely happy that the Danville Rotary Club delivered the freshest apples and thanked each one of them for a job well done.

This week we continue with the idea of youth. This week is the Danville Rotary Club speech contest. Jerry Weed has put together a group of judges to provide feedback for our students who will be giving speeches.

On Saturday Michael Williams and myself attended p.e.t.s training.  Michael learning the ins and outs of bean Rotary Club president, and I running the audio visual for the District 6560 event. This coming Saturday Charles Green, Neal Pearcy and Greg VanLaere will be attending Rotary Leadership Institute.

February 21st we will not have a lunch meeting. Instead, we will be hosting Thadous Rex.  It will be in the evening and held at the Royal Theatre in Danville. Please remember to sell your tickets or return them to Tracie Shearer so that they can be distributed.

2013 Farmers Day

Just when you think that the weather would keep people home.  Enter your local Farmer!  They grab weather by the tail and create what they can with the resources that they have on hand.  Gary and Henry make a great team putting together a wonderful afternoon with our local Hero's... Our Farmers.  This year, Don Villwock was our guest speaker.  Don Villwock of Edwardsport, Ind., took office as president of Indiana Farm Bureau and Indiana Farm Bureau Insurance in January 2002. His farming operation produces white corn, soybeans, seed soybeans, and seed wheat.

Villwock served in many capacities with Farm Bureau prior to his election as president, including vice president, District 7 director, Knox County president, State Young Farmer Committee chairman, and Feed Grains Committee chairman. He has served on the Farm Bill Task Force and the Farm Credit Task Force.

Don informed us about the importance of education for the public about where our food comes from.  Some of the education that Don provided to us was that farming today is completely different that it was 30 years ago.  Advancements in seed and process have developed a better product.

There were too many guest to list each of them.  We hosted local farmers, Rotary Interactors, and a former Rotary Interact President.
