DCEF Rocks

The topic of the day is the clock. All of the hard work has been completed. The clock is up and all we have to do now is it just the time. How many Rotarians does it take to set the time on the new Rotary Clock? The answer my never be known.

We had visitors from Greencastle today, Ann Clark and Cindy Schrader. They shared with us their Toasting the Community event that will be held on May 10 2013. Wine and beer tasting, silent auction and plenty of food and fun are in store.

We had three interactors join us and Greg was joined by his parents Ron and Linda VanLaere and Chris who was job shadowing him.

Our speaker was Christina Ward from the Danville Community Education Foundation.   Christina is a Danville grad and an active parent and volleyball coach.  Christina shared with us the mission of the DCEF.  Over $230, 000 has been awarded in scholarships since 1997 when the DCEF was founded.   Besides scholarships, the DCEF also provides grants for teachers.   Those grants can be used for programs or equipment that is needed.   Fundraisers include a golf outing, Entertainment Books, computer sale and Yankee candles.   One of the goals of the DCEF is to get away from using the kids to sell items door to door.

Progress is being made on the golf outing.  Seth Cromer wrote a Golfing Manifesto that was read to the club. Things that we learned from Seth's novel were: 1. Mark Morgan lets is wife do his dirty work. 2. Doug Catt beats TK like a drum. 3. Terry Kessinger thought that in fundraising that the lowest score wins as in golf. 4. There is something illegal about Keith Gill's team (might be the drugs they are trying to collect). And 5. Jon McDugle's team is eye candy.

SWAT TEAM DANVILLE

Well ok, it is not Swat, but they have some very cool gear. Mark Morgan had the program and turned to his wife to share her tactical experience at the Hendricks County Jail.  Todd and Megan discussed the newly created Response Team at the HC jail.  The team was given slightly used equipment fro Marion County. There are two teams that train on a weekly basis. When a person is a harm to themselves or others in the system,  they are called up to take action.   Megan put on the full gear and delivered a shocking look with the riot gear.  Mark said he taught Megan everything that she knows, but not everything that he knows.  The husband and wife team make a great band... Guns and Hoses. Lol Good one Mark.

It's a new track record!!!!

Thursday we're very proud to announce our newest member Susan Repert. Sue was asked to join the club by Jerry Weed and a few other Rotarians.  We are glad that Sue is excited to join our club.

This week Jade was our speaker host. Jade brought in Wally Levitt from the IMS Radio Network. Wally talked about the tight ship he runs at Indycar Radio. Wally lines up talent for the shows and from time to time, let the personalities go.  They are the largest radio network and are on over 380 stations.   Wally explained that the action for Indycar is non stop action, but with Nascar you have time to spell each drivers name because they craw along the track. You can listen and find out more at www.indycarradio.com

There is still time to order Roses. You can even pay for them online from our website.  Order your today to help our scholarships.  Www.danvillerotaryclub.com

Public Works has started working on the site for the Rotary Clock project.  They have torn down the brick wall, ran wiring and poured concrete.  Things are moving along. See photos.

We had 5 Rotarians attend PETS AND COTS training this weekend.  Ideas were shared and plans have started to take place to improve our club. Tracie and Ron attended a session on PR. Neal attended a breakout on membership. Greg, Ron and Suzanne attended a session on setting club goals and tracking those goals through the Rotary Website.  Danville was also honored to have two of our Interact officers attend some of the breakout sessions also. Alayna Bolen and Heather Siller were asked to present at these breakouts.  They provided insite into the workings of an Interact club and encouragement to other clubs to start an Interact Club.

The Harold Martin Open is off to a good start.  Heath, Flory and the team are doing a great job getting everyone excited about raising funds.  Some teams are pulling out to an early lead, while some are still trying to find their balls. Don't forget,  the tickets that you picked up at the last meeting are 6 tickets for $5.00.  All ticket sales, sponsorships,  and players will help your team win a steak dinner.  Check out the wall for who is on your team. You might want to even introduce your self to your team Captain if you are on Doug Catt's team. Lol

Relay in the Lead

Back in Time

Time to get back in the swing of things after a week off from Rotary.  Just because there was no meeting last week does not mean that the gears of Rotary come to a standstill.  There is plenty of news going on.
At our last meeting, JR Hackelman had the program.  JR introduced his father-in-law Steve Johnson.  Most of us know Steve and were very happy to have him join us again.  Steve is one of those speakers that commands an audience.  As a former educator, when Steve speaks, you just can't help but to listen and obey.  When Steve speaks about his passions, he speaks from his heart.  This time of year is a big push for the organization that Steve and his wife spend time supporting.  Relay for Life is that organization.  Steve gave us a brief history of the Relay and that Danville's Relay continues to be the strongest.  There are may activities that you can join during the Relay.  These activities might be small in effort but the impact that can be gained from joining the cause is unequal.  Please follow this link for more information.

Danville Rotary Club Rose Sale.
Administrative Assistants Day is around the corner.  It is time to promote and sell roses for our Scholarships.  These orders can be placed online from our club website.  www.danvillerotaryclub.com  You can copy and paste this link on your Facebook page, Twitter or your favorite social media outlet.  Paper forms are also available upon request.  Our club has also created the ability to pay for those roses through Paypal.  We already have several dozen orders.  Take action and get yours ordered today.

Membership Committee
The Danville Rotary Club has great members.  Some of those members gather together to work on membership.  The afternoon following our last meeting, the Membership Committee got together.  They are putting together programs that will help and excite our club.  Make sure that you are doing your part to help. Charles, Charlie and Mark also attended the Brownsburg Club meeting on Thursday.  It is always great to have a good showing of Rotarians visiting other clubs.  If you ever want to attend another club meeting, just ask and someone will attend with you.

Golf Outing
Mark Morgan is a man on a mission.  On a mission for Steak.  Mark has a Steak in the Harold Martin Open.  Mark has been spotted roaming around Danville and Avon getting hole sponsors and players to play in our outing. Way to go Mark (Thankfully we are on the same team... Go Mark)!  As I was updating our website to accept orders for Roses, I got the links working for golf sponsorships.  These can now be completed from our club website.  www.danvillerotaryclub.com   This warm weather makes everyone want to play golf, even Doug Catt.
